FAQ
Common Questions
Is it legal to buy a knife online and import it into my country?
In most countries it is perfectly legal to purchase and own a handmade fixed-blade knife for personal, culinary, hunting, or collection use. Yakut knives are traditional utility tools, not combat weapons. However, knife laws vary by jurisdiction — we recommend checking your local regulations regarding blade length and carry restrictions before ordering. We are happy to help with any questions at hello@muusknife.com.
How long does shipping take?
Delivery times depend on your location. Orders to the USA and Canada typically arrive within 10–20 business days from dispatch. European destinations generally take 7–12 business days. Orders to other regions may take 14–25 business days. We provide a tracking number as soon as your order ships so you can monitor progress at every step.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) as well as PayPal. All transactions are processed securely. Prices are displayed and charged in US dollars.
What is your returns policy?
We offer a 30-day return window from the date of delivery. If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, contact us at hello@muusknife.com and we will arrange a return or exchange. Items must be unused and returned in their original packaging. Return shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer unless the item arrived damaged or incorrect.
Will I have to pay customs duties or import taxes?
Import duties and taxes depend on your country’s regulations and the declared value of the shipment. In the USA, personal imports under $800 (the de minimis threshold) are generally duty-free. For other countries the threshold and rates vary. MUUS is not responsible for any customs charges assessed by your local authorities. We recommend checking with your country’s customs office if you have concerns before ordering.
How do I care for my Yakut knife?
To keep your knife in excellent condition: always hand-wash and dry immediately after use — never leave the blade wet or put it in a dishwasher. Apply a thin coat of food-grade mineral oil to the blade periodically to prevent rust. Sharpen on a whetstone, following the original asymmetric bevel angle. Store the knife in its leather sheath in a dry place. Handle materials such as birch burl and antler benefit from an occasional treatment with beeswax or natural wood oil.
How can I be sure my knife is genuinely handmade?
Every MUUS knife is sourced directly from named master craftsmen in Yakutia — we work with over 70 individual blacksmiths. Each knife is handmade using traditional forging techniques and natural materials: high-carbon steel or Damascus blades, handles of birch burl, Karelian birch, moose antler, or reindeer horn. Subtle variations in pattern, grain, and finish are natural hallmarks of genuine handcraft, not defects. Before shipping, every knife passes our personal quality inspection covering edge sharpness, balance, steel quality, and handle finish.
What makes Yakut knives special?
The Yakut knife is one of the world’s oldest and most functionally refined blade designs. Its defining feature — an asymmetric grind with a distinctive fuller on one flat side and a convex edge on the other — was developed over a thousand years of use in the extreme cold of Siberia and the Russian Far East. This geometry allows the blade to shed material in sub-zero conditions and remain controllable even with gloved hands. The Yakut people relied on this knife for everything from preparing food and building shelter to crafting tools and carving. Today it stands as a living piece of cultural heritage: each knife is both a precision tool and a collectible object of traditional art.
