Is a MUUS knife classified as a weapon?
Not in Russia for the certified models: under Russian certificate No. РОСС RU С-RU.МЖ55.В.09582/22 (GOST R 51644-2000), the Yakut Small, Yakut Medium and Yakut Large models are not weapons, and a copy of the certificate ships with every knife. How long does international shipping take?
Orders ship from Yakutia via Russian Post within 2 business days. International shipping is a flat ≈ 20 100 ₸. Delivery typically takes 10–20 business days depending on destination and customs clearance. Tracking is provided for every order. Shipping is free on orders of 3 or more knives.
What steel is used in MUUS blades?
Most MUUS blades are stainless 40Kh13 — corrosion-resistant and low-maintenance; stainless 8Cr13MoV appears rarely. Selected forgings use Kh12MF tool steel or 65G spring steel for edge retention. 65G is not stainless: left wet it rusts, and it darkens with use, so wipe it dry and keep a thin coat of oil on it. Are MUUS knives truly hand-forged?
Yes. Each knife is forged and finished by hand by a master smith in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). No CNC grinding, no mass stamping — every blade carries minor variations that make it unique.
How do I care for a hand-forged blade?
Wipe clean and dry after use. Apply a thin coat of food-safe oil (mineral oil or camellia oil) before long storage. Avoid dishwashers and prolonged water exposure. Strop occasionally to maintain the factory edge.
What is the return policy?
Unused knives can be returned within 14 days of delivery for a full refund. Engraved, made-to-order and used knives cannot be returned — but if there is a defect, the 6-month warranty covers every knife. What materials are used for the handle?
Handles are mostly Karelian birch and birch burl; less often braided leather; a few individual models have mammoth-tusk handles. Handle material is specified on each product page.
How sharp is the knife out of the box?
Every MUUS knife arrives shaving-sharp and ready to use. Each blade is hand-sharpened and tested by the maker before shipping. Resharpening is rarely needed in the first year of normal use.
Can I order a custom or personalized knife?
Yes. Custom orders — specific dimensions, handle materials, or engraving — are available on request. Contact us before ordering to discuss options, timelines (typically 4–6 weeks), and pricing.
Who pays customs duties and import taxes?
The buyer is responsible for any customs duties, import taxes, or VAT charged by their country. There is no duty-free threshold for the USA any more (the de minimis exemption was suspended on 29 August 2025), and goods made in Russia are dutiable in the USA and Canada at higher rates — see the Shipping page for each country.
