About the product

Taiga Blade

The Taiga Blade is the standard-bearer of the MUUS range — the do-everything companion for life in the northern forest. It brings together genuine handwork, dependable materials and the quiet, unhurried character of the taiga into one practical Yakut knife, hand-forged by a master smith of the Sakha Republic for camp, trail and everyday use.

Its blade is forged from Kh12MF, a high-carbon, high-chromium tool steel valued for the way it takes and holds a genuinely fine edge. At 130–150 mm long, around 30 mm wide and roughly 350 g in the hand, it is sized for control rather than brute force. The single fuller ground into one face — the signature of the Yakut knife — gives it a flat, hollow side and a convex side, so the edge slices through wood shavings, cordage, food and game with a clean release and almost no binding. That same one-bevel geometry is why the knife is so forgiving to sharpen: a stone and a few minutes restore it fully.

The Karelian birch handle is dense and warm to hold in cold weather, and the leather sheath keeps the knife belt-ready between tasks. Nothing on it is decorative for its own sake; every part earns its place.

If you have come to Yakut knives from a Scandinavian background, it is worth reading how the form compares in our guide to the Yakut knife versus the puukko and bushcraft knives — the Taiga Blade covers the same bushcraft, feathering and food-prep ground, but with the deep fuller and asymmetric grind that give a Yakut knife its bite. It is a knife for people who spend real time outdoors and want one blade they can trust.

Ice-born, fire-forged, and made one at a time by hand — each Taiga Blade is unique to the smith who forged it.
