About the product

Taiga Blade — Angler

The Angler is the Taiga Blade tuned for the person who works a rod and reel. It is the knife that rides in the tackle bag or on the belt for a day on the water — light, precise, and ready for every small, exact cut that fishing actually asks for. Hand-forged by a master smith of the Sakha Republic, it turns the classic Yakut form toward the riverbank and the boat.

Its blade is Kh12MF tool steel — a high-carbon, high-chromium steel that takes an unusually fine, keen edge, which is precisely what precision work rewards. At 130–150 mm long, about 30 mm wide and roughly 350 g, it is nimble in the hand. The reason it fillets so cleanly is the single fuller, or dol, ground into one face: the flat, hollow-ground side glides flush along a fish’s backbone while the convex side steers the cut, so you lift clean fillets and make controlled, delicate cuts on line, leader and bait without the blade wandering. It is the asymmetric grind of the Yakut knife put to work on finesse rather than force.

The Karelian birch handle stays secure in a wet, slippery grip, and its dense, figured grain shrugs off the damp of a day on the water. The leather sheath keeps the edge protected in a crowded kit. Everything about the knife is built to be picked up, used for a quick, exact cut, and put away again — over and over, all day long.

This is the blade for streamside work: cutting line and leader, prepping and cutting bait, dressing and filleting the day’s catch, and trimming it for the pan. Because it spends its life around water, keep it happy — our guide to sharpening and caring for a Yakut knife covers drying, oiling and re-honing the single bevel.

Ice-born, fire-forged, and finished one at a time by hand — no two Anglers are exactly alike.
