What makes a Yakut knife authentic?
An authentic Yakut knife is defined by two things: how it’s ground and how it’s made. The blade is asymmetric — a hollow (dol) on one face and a flat or convex other side — a geometry refined over a forging tradition more than a thousand years old, whose form has stayed essentially unchanged for that long. And it is hand-forged, not stamped: every blade is shaped by hand and every handle is carved from natural material. A factory “Yakut-style” knife can copy the silhouette, but it can’t reproduce the hand-work — the individually judged depth of the hollow, the temper, the fit of the handle — that makes each real one slightly different. How does MUUS work?
We source directly from more than 70 master smiths of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), who forge using traditional hand methods passed down through generations — a working network with the capacity for up to 3,500 hand-forged knives a month, while every single blade is still made by one smith, by hand. Every piece is 100% handmade: the blade forged from high-carbon or Damascus steel, the handle carved from natural materials — birch burl, Karelian birch, or elk and reindeer horn. Before a knife ships, it is quality-checked — edge, balance, steel and finish — and it travels with a certificate of authenticity. Typical delivery is 10–15 days to the USA, 7–12 days to Europe, and 12–20 days to Asia, sent by registered international post — every shipment includes tracking and a certificate of authenticity. Returns are accepted within 14 days of delivery for unused knives in original packaging; return shipping is the buyer’s responsibility, and refunds are processed within 5–7 business days after we receive the item.
